Lesson One - Personal Pronouns and The verb to be

Welcome to CJ180 English Course. On this level we will study the basic grammars and language structures that I consider important for us to give the first steps toward our goal. As I told you before I will divide each topic by three parts. So without further ado let's keep the ball rolling! Our first topics are the verb to be and the personal pronouns both object and subject. Are you ready?

Singular

I = Eu

You = Você

He = Ele

She = Ela

It = isso

Plural

We = Nós

You = vocês

They = Eles ou Elas

Note que:

"It" normalmente é usado com coisas e bichos,mas é comum referir-se ao animal de estimação como "He" (Ele) ou "She" (Ela).

A 3a pessoa do Plural (They) não tem masculino/feminino diferentes como acontece em Português.

• A 2a pessoa plural (You) equivalente a "Vòs" é igual a 2a pessoa singular (You).Para saber de qual das duas pessoas se trata dependemos do contexto da frase.Exemplo:

You like to go to the Estação da Juventude -- pode ser "Você gosta de ir à Estação da juventude".

ou "Vocês gostam de ir à Estação da Juventude."

Qual das duas está certa? -- As duas estão,dependendo do contexto.OK?

.......................................................................................

OBJECT PRONOUNS

São os pronomes pessoais do caso oblíquo. Podem ser objeto direto ou indireto. Complementam o verbo e podem aparecer depois de preposição. Também evitam a repetição de substantivos que exercem a função de objeto nas frases.

Exemplo: Andressa called Miguel yesterday. She called him to say hello. Andressa é sujeito na primeira frase, representado por 'she', na segunda; Miguel é objeto na primeira frase, representado por 'him', na segunda.

Vejam todos os pronomes pessoais do caso oblíquo (object pronouns)

Singular:

me (mim, me), you (você, te), him (ele, o, lhe), her (ela, a, lhe), it (ele, ela, o, a, lhe)

........................................................................................
Plural

us (nos, conosco), you (te, vocês), them (lhes, os, as, eles, elas)

........................................................................

Observações:

As traduções podem variar bastante em português, em virtude da colocação dos pronomes nas frases: antes/no meio/depois do verbo e depois de preposição.

Exemplo: I sent him a letter (Eu enviei uma carta para ele; Eu lhe enviei uma carta).
She respects me (Ela me respeita, Ela respeita a mim)

Lesson Three - The auxiliars

......................................................................................

Simple Present Tense/ Simple Past Tense / Simple Future Tense / Future in the Past Tense

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

(by Teacher J.B.)

That's the way to express habits, facts, thoughts and feelings. It is used with general statements and actions that happen sometimes, always, usually,...

* Essa é a forma de expressar hábitos, fatos, pensamentos e sentimentos. È usada em qualquer tipo de frases e ações que aconteçam ás vezes, sempre, geralmente, ...

* No presente simples o auxiliar é (DO/DOES).
* Do é usado para os pronomes ( I,YOU,WE,THEY).
* DOES é usado para os pronomes (HE,SHE,IT).

* Em frases afirmativas não é preciso usar o auxiliar. Apenas se for necessário enfatizar ou confirmar a informação. Veja um exemplo:

__ I study English at Estação da Juventude.
Eu estudo Inglês na Estação da Juventude. ( Não aparece o auxiliar)

__ I do study English at Estação da Juventude.
Eu realmente estudo Inglês na estação da juventude. ( O auxiliar "do" enfatiza minha afirmação.)

* Em frases afirmativas usa-se primeiro o pronome, depois o verbo .
* Em frases negativas usa-se primeiro o pronome, depois a forma "don't ou doesn't e depois o verbo.
* Em frases interrogativas usa-se primeiro o auxiliar "do/does" , depois o pronome e depois o verbo.

Visitando outras oficinas

Essa semana de segunda (01/08) á sexta (o5/08) o teacher Jota estará ausente á pedido de Dona Graça. Assim sendo, ele não poderá ensinar . Isso não significa que os alunos de Inglês vão ficar parados sem fazer nada. Será uma grande oportunidade para visitar os outros cursos e estreitar os laços de amizade. Na próxima semana tudo voltará ao normal e reiniciaremos o curso. Um grande abraço do teacher.

See you back!
